The SDF Collective were a band I had heard of in the NorthEast scene but I had never actually heard the band but we were waiting for Robots in Disguise earlier in the year and we were treated to the sounds of this local trio. I had only heard of the band and didn’t have a clue what kind of musical vision they had. Well I was shocked and amazed as I moved to the beat. Imagine early Selish C***, Underworld and Arab Strap forming an unlikely supergroup. It is a sound of a dystopian future, dance beats bouncing around indesirable lyrics. I have since received their demo and it perfectly highlights why I was enthusing to anyone who would listen about the band. It is rare to be excited for local groups and they certainly are a one to watch out for as they storm a venue near you with their synth fused dancefloor assaults. Never mind your hip stylised local Indie pop bands, this is where local music is exciting and challenging.

Described as ‘the feral ferocity of early PJ Harvey, the stark rock fire of Pixies and the insouciance of Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ in the free press We Rock Like Girls Don't release double A side single Welcome to My World/ Feeling Lonely Now is out now. These tracks are a stunning collaboration of Rock’n’Roll, intensity, supreme musicianship, stripped vocals and pop choruses mixed by US producer John Goodmanson who’s previous credits include Sleater-Kinney, Gossip, Simple Plan, Death Cab For Cutie, Wu Tang Clan and many more.
Spending most of last year touring the UK, Germany, Belgium, Netherlands and Italy in their beat up VW estate held together with string and gaffer tape, spurred on by stage invasions in Germany and the crowd singing the words at the Leffingeleuren Festival in Belgium.
The duo were also short listed for the XFM 2010 New Music Awards for their raw and ravaging debut album How Did It Get To This, capping a remarkable 12 months for them. In August 09 the band signed to Domino Publishing Company and immediately began recording new material in Seattle with producer John Goodmanson resulting in this breath-taking new single.

Crucify | Listen Here Screaming Ballerinas emerged from the London club scene in a cascade of glitter and lip gloss, laden with a clutch of tunes that contained more hooks than Abu Hansa at a Pirates of The Caribbean fancy dress party. In an age when many Indie bands resemble mucky faced urchins who would happily relieve your granny of her pension given half the chance, it’s refreshing to see musicians with a sense of style who take a pride in their appearance, and actually look like real “pop stars.”

Lana brings her ray of Latin injected sunshine to the people and delivers the ultimate break up song ‘Don’t Call Me Baby’, her debut single released 20th October. The single features the lead track ‘Don’t Call Me Baby’ bringing out Lana’s Latin vibrancy. Having half her heart resting in Spanish territory, she sings a beautiful version of it in Spanish. Lana’s Latin influences were fully honed following a year in Mexico, where she spent a year writing new tunes. |
