Beautiful Without You Together since March 2006 Cate Ferris and Adam Staff have emerged through a number of previous projects to metamorphise into Afterspark. A project that represents the fusion of two very different approaches to songwriting to produce a distinctive and dynamic musical landscape. It's quite astonishing how two people can make such atmospheric songs, each soothing track is simple and catchy. The largely acoustic instrumentation is tinged by hard hitting lyrics and intricate harmonies. |

House Of Cards | Click here to listen Singer songwriter Bruce Kissell's 'Halcyon Day' EP is an atmospheric and haunting piece of work that pulls the the listener subtley into Kissell's imaginative and ethereal world. His angelic voice is backed by Anna Kissell on Violin and beautifully harmonious backing vocals. There is a myriad of influences that can be glimpsed in these five tracks, from Radiohead to Rufus Wainwright and PJ Harvey to Damien Rice. But this is inconsequential as you slowly find yourself being engrossed in every song. It's like being arrested by a masterpiece at a private view, for a brief moment you unwittingly get caught in flux. Soon to be touring in Bristol, Bath and London his live shows are not to be missed. Bring Me Back A Dog | Click here to listen Berlin's IAMX aren't just your jeans and t-shirt band, merely an auditory experience to be heard and not seen. Their live shows are an event, a full on aural and visual attack with the dynamic and inimitable Chris Corner (ex Sneaker Pimps) leading the parade. Mainland Europe have been lapping up his blend of† dramatic synth-rock, darkness-infused pop, and intricately-constructed indie dance, IAMX have been headlining festivals in Austria, Belgium, CZ, Rep, Poland, etc. Sharing the stage with and sometimes outshining Placebo, Franz Ferdinand and The Cardigans among others. They also went down a storm at SxSW Music Festival with their mesmerizing live show, the general consensus praising their frenetic live show causing an overwhelming buzz. Like an 80s electro glam soundtrack to a Jan Svankmajer film or an almost unfathomable hybrid between the sexy swagger of† a Weimar cabaret and the cool and collected respectability of a latter day Noel Coward. IAMX mixes erotically-charged vocals with music that is, at once, frantic yet controlled. With such strikingly cinematic songs as the waltzy drama of "President" to the percussive sexual predatory of "The Negative Sex" to the indelibly infectious synthpop of the sweeping "Spit It Out". IAMX's second album The Alternative out now in the UK and play King’s College on 26 November. www.myspace.com/iamx |
